For IT teams and MSPs
Deploy Thoth to many computers.
The installer runs silently, installs for everyone on the computer and needs no input. Use it with your RMM, Intune, Configuration Manager or Group Policy.
Commands below use version 0.1.0. Change the file name to match the one you download.
Install for everyone on the computer
Run it as an administrator or as SYSTEM, which is what most deployment tools do. There are no prompts and no reboot is needed to start using it.
Thoth-Setup-0.1.0.exe /S /allusers
Or install the Windows Installer package
The same program as an .msi, for Group Policy, Intune and tools that want one. It always installs for everyone on the computer.
msiexec /i Thoth-Setup-0.1.0.msi /qn
Choose the install folder (setup .exe)
The folder goes last, with no quotes, even if it has spaces.
Thoth-Setup-0.1.0.exe /S /allusers /D=C:\Apps\Thoth
Let your tools handle updates
Thoth updates itself by default. If you push new versions yourself, switch that off for the whole computer. Settings then says your organization manages updates.
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Thoth" /v DisableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
Uninstall
People’s guides, screenshots and settings stay on the computer, so reinstalling finds them.
"C:\Program Files\Thoth\Uninstall Thoth.exe" /S /allusers
Detecting it
An all-users install puts Thoth.exe in C:\Program Files\Thoth and adds an entry named Thoth, with its version, under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. Either works as a detection rule.
In your tool
NinjaOne and other RMMs
- Upload Thoth-Setup-0.1.0.exe (or the .msi) as a software package, or let a script download it.
- Run the install command above as SYSTEM. If the tool starts the command as the signed-in user, use the .msi.
- Set the DisableUpdates value in the same script if you manage versions from the RMM.
Microsoft Intune
- Wrap the installer with the Microsoft Win32 Content Prep Tool to make an .intunewin file.
- Add it as a Windows app (Win32). Install command: Thoth-Setup-0.1.0.exe /S /allusers. Install for the device, not the user.
- Uninstall command: the uninstall line above. Detection: a file rule for C:\Program Files\Thoth\Thoth.exe.
Configuration Manager and PDQ Deploy
- Create an application or package from the installer.
- Use the install command above with the “whether or not a user is logged on” setting, running as the system account.
- Detect it by the file C:\Program Files\Thoth\Thoth.exe, or by the version in its uninstall entry.
Group Policy
- Put Thoth-Setup-0.1.0.msi on a share the computers can read.
- In a Group Policy Object, add it under Computer Configuration → Software Settings → Software installation, set to Assigned.
- Set DisableUpdates with a Group Policy Preferences registry item.
Licenses and accounts
Licenses belong to people, not computers. For teams, each person is given a seat online and signs in to Thoth with their own account, so there is no key to push to computers and nothing to keep track of per machine. Team licensing arrives with the Team plan.
