Pro is unlocked by a signed license key that Thoth checks on your computer, so it keeps working offline. The website adds accounts and teams, and a count of computers per license.
How do I turn on Pro?#
Two ways, and either is fine. Sign in to Thoth with the account that has Pro (Settings → Plan & license → Sign in with Thoth) and Pro turns on with nothing to copy. Or paste a license key into the same page (Enter license key) and choose Activate. A key from a purchase is on your account page and in your email. A key starts with CT1-.
If you use both, the account’s license is used while it’s valid, and otherwise the pasted key.
How many computers can I use Pro on?#
Three at a time. A license counts the computers it’s active on, so a key (or an account’s license) can be on up to three. On a team, each person who is given a license gets three of their own.
If you see that your license is already in use on three computers, open your account page at my.usethoth.app and look under Your computers. Remove a computer you no longer use, then try again in Thoth. A computer you haven’t used for 30 days stops counting by itself. If you can’t reach your old computers, contact support and we can free the places.
Does Pro work offline?#
Yes. A key is checked on your computer, so Pro keeps working without a connection until the key ends. Each time Thoth starts with a connection it checks again within seconds, and then about once a day: it picks up a renewed key, counts the computer, and learns if the license was taken back. A key from a subscription lasts until your paid period ends plus two weeks. The key an account gives the app lasts about a week and is renewed daily. A computer that stays offline can’t be told, so it keeps Pro until its key runs out.
When does Pro end?#
| What happened | When Thoth notices |
|---|---|
| The key expires | At once, wherever the computer is. The date is in the key. |
| A subscription ends | When the key runs out: your paid period plus two weeks. |
| A team admin takes a license back, or you leave the team | The next time Thoth starts with a connection, and within a week on a computer that stays offline. |
| A key is revoked | The next check with a connection. Thoth turns Pro off and says why on Settings → Plan & license. |
| The computer is offline | Nothing can be told. A pasted key works until its date; an account’s key until its week is up. |
When Pro ends, your guides stay on your PC and everything on the Free plan keeps working. Cloud copies and help centers follow the Free plan’s limits.
How do I move Thoth to a new computer?#
Install Thoth on the new one and sign in, or paste your key. Then remove the old computer under Your computers on your account page. Your guides don’t travel by themselves: see Back up your guides and move to a new computer.
I lost my license key#
It’s on your account page at my.usethoth.app. If you were given a key by someone else, ask them for it again, or contact support.
