Where Thoth keeps your data, and what leaves your PC

Thoth keeps your guides on your PC. There is no account to record, edit or export, no analytics, and no automatic crash uploads. This page lists where things are and what the optional features send. The privacy page is the full statement.
What’s on your PC#
Everything is under %APPDATA%\Thoth. To open it, paste that into the Windows address bar. Uninstalling Thoth leaves it there, so reinstalling finds your guides.

license.json | Your license key. Pro is worked out from it each time and never stored, so editing a file can’t unlock it. |
device.json | An id Thoth made for this computer, used to count computers per license. Nothing about your hardware. |
recordings\draft\ | An unsaved screen recording, kept up to 7 days. |
Backups\ | Automatic and manual backups, unless you chose another folder. |
publish-keys.json, ai-keys.json | Your passwords and keys for publishing and AI, encrypted with your Windows account. |
What leaves your PC, and only when you ask#

| Use an AI feature | The text you chose, and screenshots only if Send screenshots is on, to your own provider. Blurs are burned in first. |
| Publish to NinjaOne, Confluence, Notion or WordPress | The guide to that service. |
| Choose an online voice for video | The narration text to your provider. The Windows voices stay on your PC. |
| Sign in, or turn on cloud features | Your account and what you choose to back up, sync or host. Backups and synced guides are encrypted on your PC first. |
| Ask for an email review | A private copy of the guide, with blurs burned in, so the reviewer can open it. The link works for 7 days. |
| Send an error report | What you wrote, the images you attached and the diagnostics you left ticked. Save report ZIP sends nothing. |
| Start Thoth | A license check and an update check, when they’re on. |
