Thoth’s AI features run on your own provider and key, so you choose the model, the price and where your text goes. Requests go from your PC to your provider; nothing passes through Thoth. With Ollama, the model runs on your own computer.
Connect a provider#
- 1
Choose a provider
Open Settings → AI and pick OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Ollama (local) or a custom OpenAI-compatible address.
- 2
Add your key and a model
Paste the API key (Ollama needs none) and choose a model. Pick one that can read images if you want it to work from screenshots. The key is stored encrypted on this PC, and Thoth never shows it again.
- 3
Test the connection
Choose Test connection. It sends a tiny request to check the key and model.
- 4
Decide about screenshots
Send screenshots is a switch. Off, only text goes to the provider. On, screenshots go with it, with your blurs burned in first.
You can also set the Writing language, the Tone (clear and neutral, friendly or formal) and Custom instructions that go with every request, such as your product names or who the readers are. Providers lists what Thoth works with.
What you can do#
| Where | What it does | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| AI in the text toolbar | Rewrites the selected text (or all of it): Improve writing, Fix spelling and grammar, Make shorter, Add more detail, Simplify, Friendlier tone, More formal tone. Ctrl+Z in the field restores the original. | Free |
| Microphone button | Dictate a description instead of typing it. Needs a provider that offers speech to text (OpenAI or an OpenAI-compatible server). | Free |
| Improve guide | Suggests better step titles and instructions, and shows you a preview before anything changes. | Pro |
| Write step titles and descriptions… | Writes them from each screenshot and the control you clicked. By default it leaves steps you’ve written yourself alone. | Pro |
| Write the introduction… | A guide title and introduction from the steps. | Pro |
| Translate guide… | A translated copy of the whole guide. | Pro |
| Guide settings → AI instructions | Extra instructions for one guide, like its audience, on top of your global ones. | Pro |
