A note is a colored box with an optional title and a few lines of text. Use one for what doesn’t belong in the instruction itself: a warning before a risky step, a tip that saves time, or a rule the reader should know.
Add one#
- 1
Open the step menu
Choose ••• on the step and pick Add info callout, Add tip callout, Add warning callout, Add important callout or Add note callout.
- 2
Write it
Give it a title if it helps, and type the text. You can change the kind later.
- 3
Place it
Choose where it sits: Before title, After title, Before description, After description (the default), Before image or After image.
| Kind | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Info | Background that helps but isn’t required. |
| Tip | A shortcut or a better way. |
| Warning | Something that can go wrong or can’t be undone. |
| Important | A rule the reader must follow. |
| Note | A neutral aside. |
How notes look when you share#
- PDF, Word and web page show them as colored boxes in your design.
- Markdown uses GitHub alerts or Plain blockquotes, your choice in the export settings.
- Copy with screenshots pastes them as one-cell tables, so Outlook and Word keep their color.
