A placeholder is a word in double square brackets, like [[company]]. When you export, Thoth replaces it with its value. They work in step titles, descriptions, notes, headers, footers and cover pages, so you can write a guide once and produce a version for each client or team.
Your own placeholders#
- 1
Add the placeholder
Open Settings → Placeholders, choose Add placeholder, and enter a key such as
companyand a value such asPinecrest Dental. These apply to every guide. - 2
Use it
Type
[[company]]in any text. It looks like[[company]]while you edit and reads Pinecrest Dental in the export. - 3
Override it for one guide
Open Guide settings in the editor and add a placeholder with the same key. A guide’s own value wins over the one in Settings.
