Change Thoth’s settings

How Thoth looks and starts, what it calls you, how it updates, and how to reset it. Every other settings page is explained where it matters.

Where the other settings are explained

Choose Settings in the sidebar. The pages are grouped by what they change. This article covers the two that are about Thoth itself, General and Data & about; the others are explained next to the thing they control.

General#

Setting	What it does
Theme	Light, dark, or follow your Windows setting.
Your name	Shown when you send a guide for review or approve one, and in version history. Left empty, Thoth uses your Windows user name.
Date format	How dates look in the library, and what `[[Date]]` becomes in exports.
Check spelling	Underlines misspelled words in titles and descriptions. It takes effect after you restart Thoth.
Icon in the notification area	Puts Thoth next to the clock, so you can open it or start a capture from there.
Keep running when the window is closed	Closing the window leaves Thoth in the notification area, so your capture hotkeys keep working. Quit from the icon there.
Start with Windows	Starts Thoth in the notification area when you sign in to Windows, without opening the window. Installed copies only.

Data & about#

Data folder is where your database, screenshots and settings are kept, on this PC only. Choose Open folder to see it.
Auto Update looks for a new version when Thoth starts and every few hours, downloads it in the background and asks you to restart to install it. The page shows the version you have and whether it is up to date.
Import from Folge brings in guides you made with Folge. See Move your guides from Folge to Thoth.
Restore default settings resets the general, capturing, privacy and hotkey settings. Your guides, brand kit, integrations and sign-in are not touched.
Third-party notices lists the open-source software Thoth is built with, and its licenses.
